We started out on our bageling journey in 2012 as Sweet Note, when our Founder and CEO’s family members were diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Initially, it was about recreating an authentic New York Style bagel to be gluten-free. As time went on, we learned more about the startling statistics about the amount of products that contained food allergens, and the lack of options for individuals and families. Even more startling were the FDA labeling guidelines about manufacturing facilities and listing (or not listing) what allergens they may use in the facility.

Taking that knowledge, and wanting to create more products that almost anyone could enjoy, we decided to remove the Top 14 common allergens from all products! That means we are free from wheat, soy, dairy, egg, peanut, tree nut, fish, shellfish, sesame, mustard, celery, sulphites, lupin. Additionally we are oat free as well, since we are aware of the cross-reactivity it can trigger in some individuals. We manufacture all of our products, and that ensures that we have total allergen control in our facility. We wanted to build a company that would take into account your needs, as a part of a greater whole. That is why we rebranded as The Greater Knead, and we rest assure that you can EAT CONFIDENTLY with us.

Allergen Policy

The Greater Knead stands very firmly on the belief that people with food allergies should be able to eat confidently! We know how important and serious it is to ensure no undeclared allergens are introduced.

We are a gluten and Top 14 common allergen (wheat, soy, dairy, egg, peanut, tree nut, fish, shellfish, sesame, mustard, celery, sulphites/sulphates, lupin, and corn.) free manufacturer. No products produced in our facility are produced with any ingredients containing any of those allergens or gluten. We do not warehouse/store anything (ingredients, etc) in the facility that contains any of the allergens or gluten.

When dealing with our ingredient suppliers, they must fill out a questionnaire about their storage and handling practices, as well as documentation from the manufacturer stating whether or not the ingredient contains any of the allergens or gluten. Ingredients are approved by brand and supplier prior to being brought into the facility, and are not accepted unless they are an exact match.

Gluten is tested on products and surfaces, in house at least once a month, and also at randomized times to ensure complacency. Products are sent out for 3rd party testing quarterly and a sample is retained from each batch for the duration of its shelf-life for testing if necessary.

With all precautions taken, we do absolutely everything in our power to be sure that our products are absolutely free of gluten and any undeclared allergens.
